LEGS Evidence-Based Approach

LEGS is an independent initiative that aims to improve the quality and livelihoods impact of livestock-related projects in humanitarian situations.

LEGS Impact Database

LEGS tracks and uses evaluations, reviews and impact assessments of livestock and livestock-related projects as part of our evidence base.

Impact Database

The LEGS Impact Database contains some of the main documents we’ve used to develop and update LEGS. The Database is a simple spreadsheet which lists a set of documents by region, country, type of emergency and type of livestock intervention, with live links to each document. The Database was revised and updated in May 2020, and can be downloaded here:

If you have any evaluation or impact assessments reports that you would like to add to the database, please contact the LEGS Coordinator.

The LEGS Handbook

The LEGS Handbook provides standards and guidelines for appropriate and timely livestock-based livelihoods responses in emergencies, using a participatory and evidence-based approach. The Handbook was produced through a broad consultation process, drawing on good practice worldwide. The LEGS Handbook is a companion to The Sphere Handbook alongside other humanitarian standards which make up the Humanitarian Standards Partnership.
